It can be difficult to choose between a cat and a dog for a pet. They’re both furry and cuddly, but they’re two completely different creatures. Cats have wonderful traits such as the way they take care of themselves, how they manage to keep themselves clean and their gentle instincts that make them a great family pet.
Cats don’t take up much space
People who have a golden retriever or even a small dog as a pet know how much space they take up in a bed. No matter their size, they love to stretch out in other people’s personal space, the room where they play and exercise and their belongings (eg dog bed/toys) so they need to have ample space for them to be happy and healthy.
On the other hand, cats do not need much space to survive. It should be just enough to hold their necessities such as litter boxes (one per cat and one extra) as well as food and water dishes, all of which will ensure your kitty is happy.
Owning a cat is much more affordable.
During their lives, cat care is less expensive than dogs. There are some very expensive cat breeds out there but when it comes to adoption fees, cats and kittens are much cheaper than puppies or puppies, especially during cat seasons or when there are a lot of kittens at the shelter. There are shelters that either waive the fee or offer two cats for the price of one.
There are a lot of expenses to consider when getting a pet, including supplies and caretakers, among other things. Since dogs tend to damage their toys, the materials they’re made of have to be tougher (and they’re much more expensive) or they need to be replaced every now and then. Cat toys are relatively cheap to buy in stores, but even cheaper (and easy) to make.
Dogs need plenty of exercise as this is crucial to their health, however, walking the dog two or three times a day can be challenging when their owner has a full time job. On average, dog walkers cost $15 to $20 per 20-minute walk and think about it, costs can add up right away. On the contrary, cats easily content themselves with napping, lying down and playing even when they are alone in the house while their human parent is working. Two kittens on their own are best because they will never be bored.
Cats are easy to handle when indoors.
To stay happy and healthy, dogs need plenty of exercise, long walks, and plenty of time outdoors. It is almost impossible for them to live indoors only. However, this can be difficult when dog owners have limited mobility, don’t have a yard or their home is not accessible from parks.
Cats are safest indoors and can easily be encountered when lounging by the window or curling up on the sunny part of the sofa. The window only needs to be opened slightly to let some fresh air in (but not so wide that the cat can escape). This will allow the cats to be very happy because they are watching birds as well as insects all day long.
